Well that would depend so much on her likes and dislikes. We don't know her and I am assuming you do? How old is the daughter. She might like to make a card for her "birth mother".
So much depends on the relationship you have. You don't say if your daughter is adopted or perhaps you are family and took over the Role of raising her??? Need more info.

If you are step-mom, ask your daughter and have her pick out a gift, if she's old enough. If she's too young, a plaster mold of her handprints always brings tears to the eyes. If it's an adoptive situation, give her a scrap book of your daughter through the years. Either way, they are gifts that come from the heart.

Nothing would be required... Depending on your relationship with her, how about a journal??? If she just gave her child up for adoption in this past year she must have lots of things going on in her head and it may help to write it all down. You could always do something generic too, just like a pretty christmas ornament, or a tin of christmas cookies, or something to use for home decor.

How about a gift certificate to a day spa? They can do the whole "day of beauty" thing... hair, nails, massage, facial.
