i am in contact with someone i met on a singles site, we have emailed each other for over a month now. we are talking seriously about her moving here to start a new life with together. is there a way to check her credentials and make sure that i am not getting scammed ? i believe her, yet i have seen that there are scammers that live in the city in russia where she lives.

Since she is a single woman, likely under 40 years of age, she will not be able to obtain a visa to visit the US. In order for her to immigrate here and "start a new life" with you, you will have to go THERE and meet her first (it is a US immigration requirement).
I guarantee, from what you say here, that she IS a scammer. If you mention your concerns about her being able to get a visa, she will write you and tell you that she "knows an agent at a visa agency" that can help her get a visa... bulls**t. Nobody can "help" someone get a visa.
Look at http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html and it will give you the real visa requirements.
I suggest you insist to her that YOU will travel to HER. She will argue for about 3 emails, but if you persist in this, she will magically go away and you'll never hear from her again.

Godfrey, I'm sure you can find a perfectly acceptable young lady in the US without having all the worries & the red tape.
If you have even the slightest doubt about her, I think you should forget the whole thing. A relationship cannot survive without trust.

there are sites to check and sites that will confirm her identity --- why not put her name and her email into google and see what comes back --- also if she is asking for money to come over then be suspicious ---- plus are the emails answering your questions or just rambling on ---- best wishes

Most Russian women will lie and cheat to get a better life. From the people who have, they told me they are cold and will leave you in a second if a better opportunity arises. Its not their fault, just life is hard in their country and one must survive.

Ohh! Be careful! What if is she comes to the US and after getting green card or something, damp you? Russian checks are pretty calculating cookies! If I were you, I just would not do it & stay out of trouble! There are enough russians here. Most russian girls are cold hearted, bossy, sly & cheaters. Please do not get me wrong, I probably too generalizing here. But I did not say "all russian girls". I worked with so many russian gals. Not very trustworthy!
