Viruses are spread (transmitted) in various ways. Some are swallowed, some are inhaled, and some are spread by the bites of insects and other parasites (for example, mosquitoes and ticks). Some are spread sexually

Exposure to infected air; fluid; fomites and or skin.
Then if you're a favourable host you get infected.
Getting infected doen't mean you'll get sick from it. Depends on how the virus works.
Example Hepatitis A; you swallow the virus, gets to the liver and the entire body. Often it's the inmune reaction to the virus that causes the illness, in trying to destroy the virus inside the hepatic cells the cells get damaged.
It's quite more complicated but hope this brief intro. would suffice to get you interested and study more.

Depends on which viral illness you are talking about. Some are spread by droplets and inhaled, others are consumed and some require body fluid exchange.
