Not only is the time of day different but the day itself may be different. There is an 18 hour difference between say Brisbane and Los Angeles, CA. So when it's 1:00pm Tuesday in Brisbane it's only 7:00pm Monday in LA. An easy rule of thumb for Brisbane to Pacific Time (California) is to add 6 hours and subtract a day! But seeing as the US has 4 time zones, this can be tricky. Now I've even confused myself.
As for users online in Yahoo! English, it does seem a majority are from the US, then Canada, the UK and Australia.
