I am an 1/8 Cherokee,( Great Grandmother full-blooded).

Some of the "traditions" have been passed down.

Although I have to deal with "the public" constantly,( and enjoy it mostly), ironically my idea of heaven is "going away from the things of Man".

Fishing gives me time to renew my spirit. Being in the wilderness reminds me how "fragile" and "silly" our society truly is.

I also like the camaraderie of being in the outdoors, (like engaging in tourney fishing), and the excitement of the "hunt". That's why (unless I'm Ice fishing), I rarely use live bait.

Great stress reliever,it's so exciting not knowing what's on the end of that line. The possibility of the fish of a lifetime, break from family, chance to get to enjoy the outdoors, bonding with fellow anglers(trading stories and picking up tips). Gotta love fishing!

I will just give you an example of my fishing trip Saturday.
I caught two SM over 21" (pic on my 360)
At one time I had Loons (not common in Ky but are starting to winter here more and more) on both sides of my boat singing, and a Bald Eagle( not uncommon in KY but not in my area) flew over at the same time. I also saw a few deer, and some wild turkeys.
So that about sums up why I fish.

I like fishing because it allows me to get out by myself or with someone whom I choose to be with. A plus, is that i eat what i catch & if i am not fish hungry, i throw them back.
I can shut my cell phone off & enjoy the peace of the lake, river or creek, that i happen to be fishing at the moment.
Also, at times you can see lots of wild creachers, without going to a football , hocky, basket ball or base ball game.

Good point for me its the time you take to find the right pattern of fly then fooling the trout to take it then after all of that carefully playing the wild fish, landing it and then releasing it.

I like to fish for several reasons...to be in the outdoors, peace from my wife, the challenge, clear my mind. Too many to mention.

Your wits against the wild! It goes to our basest instincts, and you can feel no more at home or at peace than when you are fishing.
