I am planning to volunteer overseas next year around June/July but I am having trouble with fundraising or getting donations, I will be needing about $6000 -$7000, what are some good fundraising ideas and are there or what companies would be good to ask and how would i approach them? And Im in Australia if that makes any difference to what companies i ask.

Companies are inundated with these kinds of requests. And if you will go through the YahooAnswers in the Community Service section, you will see people asking this same question again and again.

First off, you need to identify how much YOU, personally, are going to raise for this trip through *working*. I suggest you set a target of $3000. Next, you need to talk to your parents to see how much they are willing to commit financially.

Start a web site that states what your volunteering is going to involve, what impact you think you are going to have on those you help, what you hope to learn, and what you hope to do after you return regarding this experience (will you be willing to make presentations at schools? service clubs? churches?). This web site should also make it clear how much you and your family is going to commit to this trip yourselves in term of finances.

Ask your parents, close family members and parents of close friends if they would be willing to endorse your trip in a letter to their employers, asking for donations on your behalf. You can offer these companies a link from the web site you create about your trip. Don't expect huge amounts of money, as their donations are not tax deductible (since you, yourself, are not a charity). Set a goal of raising $500 -$1000 from such businesses.

Finally, you can look into a loan that your parents would be willing to co-sign for you.

Do not approach a church, mosque or temple unless you are a member of such.
