Technically, I laughed (chuckled) when the receiving NCO, climbed aboard and yelled "ladie's get off my @#%##$%$ bus!!!! NOW!!! So by the time we off-loaded and took our place in the yellow footprints,I knew better by the time we went thru processing and forming. What is even worse is to be caught laughing while the drill instructor is reaming some other recruit's ***. NOT GOOD. The form of punishment in the Corps is AKA "THRASHING". This is a chaotic, rapid, form of exercise, like starting out doing side-straddle hops(jumping jacks),then in one swift motion You drop into doing push-up's, then flip over for sit-up's, then "mountain-climbers", bends and thrust's, quickly back on your feet for some "in place double-time", the best way to describe what it looks like is to say "A FISH OUT OF WATER". Also only the D.I. "stops" this, and that depends on whether he "loses count", or "hasn't even worked up a sweat yet." I think You get my point.

You probably won't laugh when you're getting yelled at. The Drill Instructors TRY to make people laugh by saying funny stuff when yelling at other people. When you laugh, you loose military bearing and they don't like that. It's a mind game. You'll just have to learn to shut down your smile muscles.

Basic Training is (among other things) designed to help you learn to control your emotions. You'll get yelled at, maybe do some pushups or refold your undies. You can't stop the reaction to being nervous, but after awhile it just takes more to make you nervous.

Yes. It there was two more weeks of boot camp left and we knew that all of us have made it. One of our drill instructors, was a very funny guy when he wanted to be and we were all standing on line in the squad bay when he was talking to us, he was purposely trying to make people laugh. Of course, I lost my bearing and ended up running around the platoon for the rest of the two weeks I was there whenever we marched anywhere or when we had formation runs. I didn't mind since I was so happy that I graduation was so close. My friends that were in my platoon still kid me about that even now.

In my basic platoon, one man laughed as the sgt was giving us a general *** reaming.
After 30 pushups and running a mile, we got the geneal idea that this simply was not done. And it never did again.
We wanted to lynch the guy who laughed, but we realized it could have happened to any one.
This is a mind game they play with you.

Yes I did, more yelling and name calling, then push-ups, and more yelling, you can not stop it. you may be able to if you try out this before Basic Training, practice with friends or family members be serious, it may or may not help. this had happened to me at MCRD Parris Island, SC. in Jan. of 66.

They say you are immature when you laugh but I mean, come on how is it immature to laugh? Thinking everything is funny is immature?
When that dude yells at you hes probably just making himself feel superior, its what most people do when they're angry when they think they are trying to teach someone a lesson. So one might think it funny that they are so ignorant to how ridiculous the subject he was yelling at for.
