get a grip: true, but the the season is a very sad time for those that have little. Shouldn't we try harder during these times?

Interestingly enough, my family qualifies with those whom you have listed. You know I'm a disabled single mom, so that should come as no surprise. Yet every year, we select a child or two from the giving trees located in various establishments, and we purchase gifts for those children. We also have visited the elderly in nursing homes during years past, and have taken small gifts to them. In doing so, the rewards have come back to us a hundred-fold, and I'm not talking about money or material things.

I do nothing on the holidays specifically since I do not celebrate them; however, I donate time throughout the year, as all people should. The past 3 years have been spent building houses in the lower 9th ward, working at a crisis center, and volunteering at a local animal shelter. Donate 2 minutes of your time to give someone a meal.....you should do this regardless of your religious affiliation or nonaffiliation.....at www.freerice.com

I contribute quite a bit of my time gathering Toys for Tots with my local Marine Corps League detachment and distributing those toys. I also volunteer to help serve at a holiday dinner.

And I don't do it in the name of christianity

In the past I have gone around to nursing homes, sang christmas songs, helped them with their crafts, and just spent some time with them. I won't get to do that this year as I will be going out of the country and I will definitely miss that.

for thanksgiving my wife and I select a few families that are less fortunate than we are and I save up some money and buy the stuff needed for a nice dinner for the family and the same goes for Christmas and we add in some presents for the less fortunate families, primarily they are things like clothing and some other necessities but we also get some fun things for them and we do all this without telling them so they don't feel guilty(because allot of people feel guilty for excepting charity)

Yep, I do every year. I help with events at my local Elks club that directly support Veterans and donate funds to MD and CP exploration.

Last year, we raised over 30,000 for CP alone. I find this to be more rewarding than paying for a church mortgage or church utility bills. Which is what I did when I was a Christian, telling myself I was a charitable person.

We purchase the vast majority of all our holiday gifts from charities such as Product (RED), Save Darfur, St Jude's and One.org.

Last year everyone got a goat donated in their name.
My parents almost died when I told them I was getting them a "kid" for Christmas.

We don't need the holidays to do that.....
It's a weekly routine.
