what do you think?

As a man, i can say that hearing that lots of times even from the girl i love, becomes repetitive, a ritual, and looses significance...and that if she wants to express her feelings to choose another way of doing it...remember the music?

"Saying that i love you is not the words i want to hear from you"

More Than Words.... it's all it takes...

It does get old, and does because meaningless, my bf and I are trying to think of a new word to use instead of I love you.

Thank you for this question and for the song reference. I really listened to the words this time I heard the song and I agree with what it says. I believe that we all like to hear someone say that they love us and we like to say it to other people. But I do think it gets over-used. It may not lose it's meaning, but it does lose the significance. We often say it when we are getting off the phone as a way of saying good bye. It's just a closing and doesn't always mean the same as when we say it with our hearts. I agree with the song and I want a man who will show me he loves me rather than just saying the words. I was insulted when I told someone I love them and they replied "I know. I see it in everything you do." But I see how my actions spoke louder than the words and meant more to him. To answer your question, I don't think it becomes meaningless but it does lose the significance and sometimes the overwhelming feelings aren't there to back it up.

I have learned from experience that actions speak louder then words. The last guy I dated used to say it all the time and buy me expensive things, but he didn't really treat me all that well, and in the end he turned out to love himself more. The guy I have been with for almost 9 years now is the total opposite. He dosen't say it that often, but he has proved it a hundred times over, buy helping me through school, being there after sticky situations and supporting me emotionally when needed. Someone may say it a lot, but unless they prove it through actions then it is meaningless

I totally agree hearing it is nice however if you hear it all the time it just starts to sound like another word and loses all meaning. I also think that to be in love with someone is more then words it is the actions that you do. You can tell anyone that you love them but you can't show it unless you really feel it:)

i am a girl, and i really don't think saying i love you becomes meaningless. it's actually a reassurance. im sure if your g/f stopped telling u, you would wonder, and ask her. For someone to say i love u, doesn't even always mean the same thing. . . you can say i love u to someone bec they made u happy or excited, or for doing something special for you, or for helping you, or bec you are in a romantic setting together. I love u doesn't always mean the same thing when i say it. it can have a friendly connotation as well as a "im in love with you" connotation, depending on when it's said to the person. im not sure how many times your gf tells you, but im sure if you tell her to stop, she will surely get really annoyed and mad at you, so be nice, and just appreciate it. . unless you can't stand it anymore. you are lucky though, so don't take it for granted that she tells you. she must really like u.

My husband and I say I love you numerous times a day.I never find it repetitive I love hearing it all the time.Although I do feel actions speak louder than words, there's other ways to show it instead of always saying it too:)

I can say my boyfriend says it all the time, and if i don't say it back he gets annoyed. I don't understand the big deal about it, we both know that we love each other, why do we have to say it 20 times a day. So yes I feel like it loses meaning. I feel like its a way to fill the silence sometimes.

I say that it does become meaningless...But in the first place, I belive that you love no one but God and your Family. That is from my point of veiw. Especially for the freaking 7th and 8th graders that have been going out for 2 days already going "I love you" and "we will be together forever" For, then, they break up the next week...

if you don't want your gf to say those words then start acting dull and annoying.she just want to express her feelings and she likes to say it,what's wrong with that?your a lucky fellow for having a caring girl..and still you're complaining just because of the word most people want to hear?man you have a problem.saying i love you will make your relationship more meaningful.please don't take the lyrics of a particular song too seriously.

hey, great song! my husb (married 10+ years) and i went through that--especially when we were FIRST married--first 4 years or so. we didn't like hearing it over and over. but we're both to the point where if one of us says it, we want to hear it back. after time, it's not a GIVEN that someone still loves you, so you want to tell them in every possible way--yes MORE than words, but ALSO words.

i know exactly what you mean. it's like "how are you" ---- who actually ANSWERS that any more. the answer to "how are you" is "fine" ---EVEN IF YOUR MOM JUST DIED. It's still "fine." And saying "I love you" at the end of every phone conversation comes to mean "bye bye" after a while, not actually "I love you." But after 10 years, it means "I love you" again. I don't know why, I just know that for us, that's how it is! Thanks for making me sing that song, too. That's a good one to get stuck in your head.
