As a person who's dealt with depression for over 40 years I can tell you that there are a lot of different types of pain associated with depression. At times my depression is so bad I get severe headaches and there are times when my arthritis is worse. At time the depression is only emotional but most of the time it's a combination of both. I have at time's been in more physical pain than emotional pain. So when they talk about the pain of depression they mean both physical and emotional. You have to remember that your physical health is a big part of your psychiatric health. A person who's depressed is more likely to have a compromised immune system. Your immune system is very connected to how you feel emotionally. If you think about it people who are grieving are more likely to catch colds or the flu, People who are taking care of other's who are seriously sick and who are under a lot of stress emotionally are more likely to get sick also. So since those who are depressed are more likely to get sick and have aches and pains. Any thing that they have to deal with on a chronic level seems to be magnified.

Probably alluding to the "emotional pain" that many people with depression experience. For some it may even be physical symptoms that are painful. Others may experience severe mood swings that lead to very negative thinking and even distorted thinking. Depression is classified as a Mood Disorder. What you are describing sounds like Dysthymic Disorder which is milder depression but chronic. We are all so unique in our own way some criteria you may see fitting others not but what you've described is treatable for many using various treatment options. The quality of ones' life is a very personal choice.

Pain is only one type or symptom of depression. Apathy, or lack of feeling, is another one. That sounds like what you're experiencing.

Lack of joy and lack of happiness is classic depression. It's perfectly 'normal' for depression, and is treated just the same as if you had the pain from depression.

It is referring to emotional pain not physical pain. Do you like sex? Yes? That is pleasure. Do you like being burned? No? That is pain. Do you like feeling depressed? If you do then it is pleasure and not pain. See site below for natural help with depression.
