My husband's brother was recently released from prison to the immigration department. He was born in another country, but was raised in the US. His parents obtained their US citizenship shortly after having him and moving to the US, but didn't petition for his citizenship. His convictions were drug-related and he has had good behavior while in jail (his time was about 3 years). Do you think he'll get deported?

He has legal status in the sense that he came to the US legally and attended school here. He just doesn't have citizenship.

If he technically does not have a "legal" status, no matter who is to blame, he will most likely be deported, where he will have to reapply for entry to the United States. This happened to my old roommate, she didn't even know about it until she tried to apply for school loans, and she was eventually deported.

It really depends on what state they are in... some are more stringent than others. Here in TN they just fortified the legislation to where these individuals do get deported after serving their time. Good behavior really has no impact on if they do or not. If they are breaking the law, out they go.

They might take him out for cake and ice cream....But odds are you might want to buy him a gift...And say Au revoir, À bientôt ..
Or maybe:
Auf wiedersehen
Viszontlátásra
Arrivedece
sayōnara
annyeong
