I recommend that you start with the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports.
The IPCC reports are peer reviewed scientific reports.
Do not use sources from the popular media such as newspapers, magazines and movies such as "The Day After Tomorrow" or an "Inconvenient Truth"
Those are merely hysterical propaganda pieces and have little or no connection to the scientific literature that is the foundation for the information on Global Warming.

Basically, it is people and companies that can prevent the global warming but too often many of those scientists are developing a theory and then finding the facts to fit their theory rather than looking at the fact first Remember that because a man is a scientist and signs a paper or petition it means nothing if his credentials are not in the right area. In other words, you wouldn't let a foot doctor operate on your head and you should give the signature of a scientist in the field or environmental effects on a bridge somewhere that much credibility when it comes to the environment.
I will give you a couple of sites to look at which are by scientists in the fields necessary to study global warming and not in field irrelevant to that warming.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies are actively engaging the private sector, states, and localities in partnerships based on a win-win philosophy and aimed at addressing the challenge of global warming while, at the same time, strengthening the economy.
“Green Living” gets a lot of attention on recycling paper and cans - but businesses can do a lot more to “Greenify” their work-flow, and usually save a good amount of cash in the process.
20 years ago, it cost businesses and consumers more to live green. Happily, that’s not the case anymore!
According to the Web site for the Union of Concerned scientists, "For each gallon of gas you burn, 20 pounds of heat-trapping C02 is released into the atmosphere."
Better gas mileage not only means a decrease of global warming causing gases, but also an increase in the amount of money saved at the pump over the life of the vehicle.
Cars with hybrid engines that can be charged like a cell phone are another environment-friendly option..
If buying a new car isn't in the foreseeable future, make good use of the one you have. Get a carpool together.

There is no global warming. The Earth's climate is cyclic. It gets warmer for a while, and then it cools off. Twenty five years ago, the news magazines were saying that we were going into a new ice age.
Tell you teacher to stop spreading propaganda. Here is a website that features a petition signed by 19,000 scientists who dispute the claims of global warming advocates.

You may not remember it, but in the 1990's, millions of Americans were all worried about Y2K. All the computers were going to blow up because they couldn't understand the millennium change. Well, I knew it was a lot of nonsense then. you don't hear anything about Y2K today. Ask your teacher about it.

Al Gore is not helping global warming.
1. Global warming is occured from natural causes
2. Al Gore isnt helping by flying private jets all across the US to tell about Global Warming
think about that.
God Bless

I have wondered that myself. I have re-usable bags but always forget them. I opt for paper when possible. I think what a lot of folks fail to do is look at the big picture though. I may use store provided bags, but I also do not buy trash bags, ziplocks, saranwrap and such. I use these paper/platic bags in the trash can and for recycling bags. Bags used for produce used at the grocery I use in place of ziplocks. I would even argue this is less plastic then filling up heavy trash bags. A more important point is looking at the big picture and spending time addressing the issues that really count in ones foot print. Eat local, eat minimally processed food. Up to 1/3 ones carbon foot print is food, average miles your food travels 1500...eating food, drinking alcohol from Australia for example surely produces a lot more carbon in shipping then buying US produces or local food and alcohol. Also, driving less, combing trips, carpooling, public transport. Don't drive out to the store with your reusable bags for something you can live without till the next trip. Requires more planning and forethought but probably a much bigger impact then reusable bags. Get bike! Buy a smaller house. Consume less. If the whole planet consumed at the level we do here in the US it would take more then 10 planets....How much stuff do you really need at wal-mart. We are raising a population of consumers. I watch in amazement the constant stream of toys folks buy for children that they play with for a few days and then what? Does a family of four really need a 3000sq ft house? Where did all the building material come from, how much energy goes into heating and cooling such a huge area. Well enough of my rambling, I think it is simple consume less...guess I'm part of the current economic problem cause, but maybe our economy needs to change.

We are very concerned about climate change and have been working at the forefront for over a decade, since we identified aviation as a major proven man-made cause, having an immediate effect on, at least, regional temperature (The ALLIANCE OF RESIDENTS CONCERNING O'HARE, INC., areco.org & THE AMERICAN WORKING GROUP FOR NATIONAL POLICY, INC.) .
At our urging, European countries got aviation on the IPCC's agenda.
Many climatologists, IPCC and others are many years behind the a main cause of climate change -- aviation.
This is because governments, led by the UN, kept aviation out of Kyoto and because that the industry itself is in charge of its emissions (ICAO).
However, as late we were, we were able to introduce aviation issues to the IPCC through several European governments and the EU. Thus, generally, scientists are still about 2-3 years behind.
Below is a cited synopsis of the issue and a direct cause and effect example:
Please let me know if you have any questions.
============
There is relatively new important proof that there is a significant man-made cause of climate temperature change.
To my knowledge, aircraft are the only proven man-made cause of climate change, resulting in an immediate change in temperature over North America diurnally by over 1 degree Celsius (Travis, 2002). Unlike what the air transport industry claims, it is obvious that aviation has a immediate and significant impact.
It was predicted by many earlier global studies, including NASA, that aircraft could have a significant impact on our climate but it was not proven until all of the aircraft could be grounded in some region.
But when aircraft were removed from the sky over North America, because of the tragic events of 9-11, the temperature quickly reverted back to generally pre-1950s over the US (North America?), diurnally. Not coincidently, the 1950s was the advent of jet air travel.
Sadly, flights are supposed to triple by about 2015-2020 and double every 8-10 years thereafter, until 2050, if left unchecked; this is likely to lead to something catastrophic in our lifetime.
Some of my advisors, including senior US government scientists/ climatologists believe that something catastrophic could begin as early as 2011 or so; if it has not begun already. However, no one knows for sure and generally, new aviation/ climate models have not been run.
*The real answer is to immediately limit flights and develop viable alternatives; however, the powerful air transport industry and the US government are opposed to them; there are better alternatives (see GAO-02-185 or recent NTB findings or see attachment for synopsis), but they do not fit into the economic globalization plan.
The media doesn't get it either: They think it is everything else.
HOWEVER, you take the planes out of the sky and the temperature immediately is effected...

There is another new study out that is also significant: Ruthenberg, R.E. "Climate Change and Global Winds," Aug 7, 2007. The study suggests why the arctic is warming. The study's objective is to provide an improved layman understanding of primary global wind circulation patterns as pollutant transport mechanisms, in order to improve communication, between various technically separated parties, including meteorologists, climate change physicists and environmentalists.

Here is what we know: Blacktop (roads and parking lots) and buildings heat cities; Air pollution causes lung (and other) diseases, deforestation causing more destruction (duststorms, hurricanes/cyclones all increasing deforestation) and destroys the ozone layer while heating earth surface; fires cause mud slides, deforestation and pollution-more heating surface temperatures; CFC's destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates and killing off endanger species and increased surface temperatures; lighting produces ozone near the surface and raises air pollution levels-more heating; the suns increased magnetic field are causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great distruction), sun spots and leading to more heating. Cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production causes pollution, warmer temperatures and destruction. But most of this is in our control outside of the sun (Volcanoes, sun spots and earthquakes are part of the sun magnetic strength): We need to fix our part! That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org an geoengineering web sight. The USA Mayor's are on the right track, we can have control and economic growth. The fed gov is way out of step-even Congress. We also need a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. Where we are with global warming has never happened before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models are having to be made with little evidence!
