I'm trying to do some reading up on this. It just feels like my family tends to have a group belief. I'm having the toughest time trying to break free from it. My father has been gone for years, but his psychological influence is still with us--like we've been brainwashed. I'm afraid I've inherited things. Is this possible?

Karma is created by good or bad deeds of a person in his life time.In scriptures of India, there goes a story of Valmiki who was a killer and a looter. Once he waylaid saint Narada to loot.Saint Narada told him that sinning for feeding the family is not worthwhile unless other members are prepared to share the sin in their karma. On Narada's advice, he went home and inquired. His parents said that there is no question of our sharing your sins. You are our issue and it is your bounded duty to look after us. When he asked his wife if she is ready to partake in his sins, she said no. I have married you so that you will feed me and give me protection and I am here also to give you progeny. How you earn your living is your business. I will never be a part of your sins. The responses from family members were eye opener for for Valmiki and he released Narada without any harms. The story tells us that our karma is entirely our own and the family has nothing to do with it.

You can call it Karma if you're a Buddhist or generational curse is you're a Christian it makes no difference.
If someone does something wrong and gets away with it, it will have repercussions on the whole family; especially the direct family (parents & children). The best cure for this is to fight evil with good.
Be a nice girl and everything will be fine soon...
Now in your case, it seems that your father had a very strong influence on all your family member. Was it fear? If he's gone, time will heal your troubles, but you need more time than just a few years.

I think there is something to that as well as there being a genetic component. Our family members develope patterns that are passed on and I do think sometimes these patterns are a reflection of a karmic lesson that needs to be changed and resolved. It's easy to fall into the thinking though that we are victims of this. It can be changed. It may take lots of therapy, prayer, breaking of patterns... I think some people come into a family and are meant to change the patterns. You might be that someone.

The only things you've inherited are his genes and your families social beliefs that have been passed down.

Kinda like how we cook our Thanksgiving turkey the way grandma used to do it. Is it the best way? Probably not... but not many people question things like that.

Question it. Only then can you change it.

We are born into our families because interacting with those people has something to teach us, even ones no longer in our lives sometimes. Think about what the lesson is. I know you will be just fine.

Karma is a lame excuse for not doing what you are suppose to be doing, stop blaming others for your behavior, take responsibility for you own actions don't hide behind karma or any other mythical imaginary things.

Depends on your path. My path believes that your luck can indeed be passed down. That doesn't mean you can't change it though.

It's not karma.

It's called generational curses.

It's from sins past.

They can be broken. It is through the blood of Jesus that all can be healed.

Hope that helps!

In His Service,
