I recently started to add borders to some of my images, do you think that makes that look good, or should I take the borders off ?

Heres the link to my flickr account:

There was a time that, as a Graphic Designer, we always put a 1 pt. border around every photograph.

Things changed, and the "rule" for that changed. The thought was, that a good photograph should stand on its own, and not have to be bordered at all to be seen if it is unique enough. This is still largely the practice on professional photography sites.

Now, I, and many photographer friends are back to borders, but nothing anywhere near as heavy as you have them. When I looked at your page, I can not even tell you what your photos were, because those 12-16 points borders just jumped out at me, even as they interrupted the flow of your photo. Those kinds of heavy borders are used for newspaper advertising, because a heavy border draws attention from the rest of the ads.

Border if you like, but it is best to keep it as minimal as possible—like a 1-5 pt. border.

I do like borders, and use them on some images. You might try a very thin white or bright line just at the image, with a thicker black border around the edge. Sometimes I pick up a color within the image and use it for the border. Unless you are doing a series, you probably don't want a border on everything. Some images need them more than others.

Love the peace lily, beautiful lighting and color there! The Oregon coast needs to have the horizon straightened, but is otherwise lovely. You are learning by leaps and bounds! Keep it up!

There is nothing wrong with borders. In fact some film as Polaroid 55 which I really like to shoot with automatically create a border around the image http://www.flickr.com/groups/polaroid55/pool/
However, I concur with the previous post. Your borders are way too heavy, and as a result your eye is automatically drawn to the border and not the image. I suggest you try a border 1/3 as heavy.

Bellpepper....an extremely exciting question. As a former CO in a state penal complex I applaud a number of his strategies. crimson undies for DMX? Heck, he could have probably worn them on the exterior along with his dishevelled pants using low so shall all of us see them. i think that Joe saved maximum people this from that photograph. lol As for animal cruelty, i'm an animal lover and can desire to be liable to bypass one step added. Soaking those undies in meat in the previous he placed them on and then assigning him to the canine element is composed of strategies. i'm not liable to accept as true with harsh scientific care of somebody that hasn't been convicted yet or suffered the loss of their residing house/vehicle interior the execution of a seek warrant. you're harmless till shown responsible in a court docket of regulation. one element i will actual say, interior the years of working interior the partitions, with a view to communicate is that I merely bumped into one inmate that actual informed me that he did the crime that have been given him there. BTW it became homicide. i don't accept as true with denying everybody get right of entry to to a doctor. We had a chum that almost died in our community reformatory dealing with drug withdrawl. while the community sheriff ultimately sent him to the scientific institution all the medical doctors pronounced that he could have been ineffective interior the hour if scientific interest had not been sought. maximum community sheriffs i've got are available touch with have not got lots ot scientific training in handling heavy accountability drug withdrawl. He ended up being between the inmates in a unit I worked on. He became a style inmate. Served his time quietly and is attempting to be a efficient member of society now.

Great pics . . . I like the black border, it makes the subject more dramatic . . . If you are making prints, I prefer borderless . . .

You have an excellent eye, I really like the closeup detail shots.

I like it because it looks like a frame and emphasizes the pictures. However, I don't think it should be used all the time.

Nice pictures, though!
