I had my laptop stolen in August. I reported it to the police and was able to give them an IP address that the laptop was connected with after the burglary. However, it has been 3 months and I have not heard from them. What would be taking so long? I do plan to call for a followup.

I know the IP address bc I used a remote control software from LogMeIn.com.

Whats the IP address going to do? The IP address is not useful in tracking your laptop unless whomever stole it connects to teh internet. Even after that there is no special thing that tells the police when its connected. Your laptop is gone. What is there for them to tell you. If you gave them all necessary information then they have no reason to call you unless they find it or have further questions.
... I suggest you buy a form of laptop lojack next time. If your laptop is stolen and whomever stole it connects to the internet they can trace where your laptop is. Its very inexpensive.

It could be any number of things, and the only way to know for sure is to call the department.

BTW... How did you get an IP address after it was stolen?

you probably have better luck hiring a private investigator. from my experience your report goes into a data bank at the police station. this may help in the future: try to purchace the lojack service and it can be tracked thru satelites
