I do not understand what Jesus is saying is Luke 23: 28-31
"But Jesus turning to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed. Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, 'FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, 'COVER US.' For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"
Background Info:
Jesus was carrying the cross and he saw a group of weeping women and then he recited the verses.
I just don't understand what it means...?????

hello there, in verse 28,(weep for yourselves and for your children) because of the terrible suffering to befall jerusalem some 40 years later when the romans would take the city and destroy the temple. verse 29,(blessed are the barren) it would be better to not have children than to have them experience such suffering. verse 30,(fall on us) people would seek escape through destruction in death rather than endure continuing suffering and judgement. verse 31,( tree is green...dry) if they treat the Messiah this way whrn the tree is well-watered and green, what will there plight be when He is withdrawn from them and they suffer for their rejection in the dry period.

Jesus was referring to the last days and the terrible times that will be on the earth it will be better in those days not to have a child because of all the hardship that will be going on .The green tree is referring to His life as well and the dry is referring to His death.Look at Revelation 6:16 and read a reference on the mountains falling on us Best Wishes>>

Reference to the Last Days we are in now.Once the Beast government[U.N.] is in full force and wrap-up time is at hand with all the Revelation judgments ripping the earth apart, peole will be glad they aren't having children about to enter into the world, and will be seeking cover[thus, the figurative speech of desiring to be covered by the hills].It also refers to 70AD.It is a near/far prophecy.

Therefore weep not for him, but let us weep for our own sins, and the sins of our children, which caused his death; and weep for fear of the miseries we shall bring upon ourselves, if we slight his
love, and reject his grace. If God delivered him up to such sufferings as these, because he was made a sacrifice for sin, what will he do with sinners themselves, who make themselves a dry tree, a corrupt and wicked generation, and good for nothing! The bitter sufferings of our Lord Jesus should make us stand in awe of the justice of God. The best saints, compared with Christ, are dry trees; if he suffer, why may not they expect to suffer? And what then shall the damnation of sinners be! Even
the sufferings of Christ preach terror to obstinate transgressors. (Lu 23:32-43)

Don't cry for me (Jesus) cry for all the Jews, they will suffer and wish to die. Those who have no children will be grateful, for they will not watch them suffer.
If men treat God this way while He is with them, what will they do when He is gone.

He was speaking of the persecution that would come at the hands of the Romans and later the persecutions that will take place in the last days.

The Jews were destined for a great fall. Jesus stated it plainly. They didn't believe in him.
