Yeah, this is ripe for parody, but...what would have to change about the ideas behind christianity for you to believe? The bible? The "hell" concept? Would you need proof of existance of Jesus?

I ask because I'm not sure how I'd answer it myself. It seems too huge to answer.

From what I already know of my former religion and the Bible, it would take being brainwashed.

If something had to change for me to believe in it without being brainwashed, it would be -

1. The Bible - it would have to be perfect.
2. The lack of evidence - there would have to be major evidence of the claims of Christianity.

Now, if those two things were satisfied I would believe. However, even if I believe it to be *true* wouldn't mean I'd believe it to be morally *right*.

That would take some changes in the content of the Bible, the personality of the god it describes, and the doctrines of the faith - i.e. hell, against homosexuals, treatment of women, etc.

Yeah that is a big question.

The hell thing would be nice, but I dont think I could ever accept such a sadistic Creator.

But to make things simple how about reconciling the old and new testaments.

Like how dose Jesus fit the Messianic reqirements stated in of Ezekiel Chapter 37.

Or how Jesus fuffilled the OT but Deuteronomy 5:29 says that the commandments must be kept forever.

For starters I'd get rid of the followers. Seriously, it's not Jesus I have a problem with. We know he existed, as did Buddha, Gandhi, Mother Teresa and other spiritual leaders.

I like what they had to say. We need to be quick to see where they are right.

I really don't know if I'm an Atheist or a really suspicious Agnostic. I just know I don't like anyone in my business about the matter.

Most of the little tales in the bible can be explained. Heaven and Hell are a state of mind, if nothing else.

So get rid of the followers. or shut them up, and I'll be more interested.

BTW: I have a few friends that are leaders in their church, but they embrace the principles of the teachings, which I greatly admire.

Peace.

I think that I would need some proof. Prove to me that there is a god. Prove to me that the bible was written by him. Prove to me that the earth has only been around for only 6,000 years (even though it is billions of years older and has been proven to be by science) All christians have to back up their beliefs with is faith. That is all fine and dandy... but don't you question anything? Don't you ever wonder sometimes if your leg is being pulled? I have a christian friend and he doesn't question anything about the world around him. He just believes that because the bible says it is so, then it must be so.... Now I am just rambling... but seriously, show me something to prove that religion/god isn't something made up by man to give people piece of mind. Please!!

wow...let me start the list.
1. It shouldn't be based on Fear. Fear of Hell, Sin, God, Judgment, etc.
2. It should be more accepting of different view points. Different ways of seeing things and living life.
3. It shouldn't contradict the natural world we live in and see everyday.
4. It shouldn't require you to give money money money money money money every week.
5. I would need to see God physically writing the Bible to take it a fact. Otherwise It's just another book written by men and is subject to criticism and peer review.
6. The Bible would have to stop bashing women.
7. God would have to apologies for all the killing He has inspired in His name.

I could probably go on,but that would be a good start.

It isn't the ideas that have to change, it's how the ideas evolved. If Christians can change every bit of recorded history to reflect their story, and destroy all evidence that this history ever happened, along with somehow making me forget all that I know... then I might consider becoming a Christian. That is, assuming that whatever they did to make me forget all that I know also removed my reasoning abilities. Otherwise, I just can't become a Christian.

As a Jew, I could not believe in a man-made god, nor could I accept the "new" testament which consists of stories borrowed from the Torah in order to predict the Christian messiah.

How about asking what it would take for Christians to become Jews?

The only way Christianity, or any other religion, could convince me to join its ranks would be for them to prove their claims. Give me some proof that your God is real or that heaven and hell are real or that the miracles exist. Asking me to believe without providing proof is an insult to my intelligence. Faith isn't enough for me.

The Bible does speak of not being 'unequally yoked' with unbelievers. 'Missionary dating' rarely works. There is always the possibility that the Christian could lead the non-believer to Christ. Unfortunately, it usually works the other way around - the Christian ends up compromising what they believe. In general, I would say 'don't do it' but one should pray about it and follow where God leads. <><

I don't know. First, there would have to be evidence for God's existence, and I don't know what that evidence would look like, but I'd like to see it. From there, I'd have to see some reconciliation between Christian doctrine (especially substitutionary atonement) and basic morality along with some evidence supporting the doctrine. That would be a starting place.
