Do people still do that? WOW.
I did that through the 70's with fantastic results.
There are many nicer designs to pick from now.

depends on 2 things. How dark the kitchen is, and if you plan on keeping it on the cabinet's surfaces for more than 24 hours. I honestly can't picture any scenario where this would work out on a long term basis.

Well I have a friend who does it all the time. She changes it about twice a year. If you are really good at getting it smooth and trimmed well it is okay. Not better homes and gardens but when the money is not there it does perk things up.

Sure you can but rather than contact paper I would use a pre-pasted wall paper. It would be cheaper in the long run and much easier to work with.

Yep, I did my entire kitchen and bathroom in contact paper. Looks really cool and easy to clean.

My Sister did it, it's real cute, she hasn't had any probablems with it at all.
She just did the middle of wood cabinets though.

NO IT WILL LOOK INCREDIBLY CHEESY. TRY USING CONCRETE/ PLASTER MIX OR PAINT TO DO AN EASY REMODEL.
