r we talkn bout a splice? or a split? cause a splice is when theres a break and u repair it; but a split, is when u go from 1 to 2 or 4 or 8 and so-on. so if ur talkn bout a split; everyting u split u lose some signal; but anythng over 4; u should use a coxial amplifier; plus u have to factor in the leght of the cable runs tht ur spliting.

It all depends on how strong the signal is as it comes into your house.

If you are near an amplifier - 5 times with a un-powered splitter would work. If you are way down the line (where you are 1 leg off of 20), a dual splitter might degrade things too much.

Your best bet is to buy a good (not Hardware store or Radio Shack) amplified splitter and attach it as the CATV coax comes into your house. Run fresh RG6 to each TV location to create un-broken runs to each TV.

A company called "ChannelPlus" makes some good splitters and amplifiers.

If you do it correctly, then 10 or 20 times would not be unreal... but if you are sloppy and don't do it right... then once would be more than enough to screw things up
