Why is it a Wisconsin state law that you have to be 16 to get your nose pierced??? I can't understand why... because my 15 year old sister went to a tattoo/piercing shop to get a nose piercing, and they told her that it's a state law and you gotta be 16 to get it pierced. What I don't understand is... some 12 year olds have their noses pierced... and I don't understand how they can... because it's a state law to be 16 and all... Thanks!!

You go to another state to get it done.
I live in WI as well, and there are tons of freshmen in our HS that have their noses pierced. They all have said they've gone to neighboring states to get it done.

Well... If someone under 16 has their nose pierced they must have done so with a parent, or had someone they know do it. Basically laws like this are set up to protect young people from doing something dumb. It all comes down to the fact that piercings require a certain level of responsibility... if not taken care of properly they can get infected... if infected and not taken care of properly you could get very sick. Also piercings can result in allergic reactions, which having a piercing that close to both your airways could only end up really bad if it was a severe reaction. Chances are, someone who is under 16 will not have their own health insurance and if something like that happened and they required medical attention, those medical bills would go directly to that person's parents. Then the parents could sue the tattoo/piercing shop for damages. So this law is not only set up to protect young irresponsible people from infections and health risks, but parents from medical bills and tattoo/piercing shops from lawsuits. There are a lot of factors in life's decisions that young people don't always consider and laws like this and the supervision of parents are things that can protect someone until they are old enough and wise enough to make responsible decisions. Hope that helps.

Maybe because it takes the human nose a full 16 years to properly developed. It's kind of like asking a little league pitcher to throw curve balls before his arm is fully developed. It might ruin it. So in the case of the nose piercing, the state at least wants you to wait until the olfactory gland has reached maturity before one deliberately mutilates it.

It's just like tanning in wisconsin. You're not allowed to do that before a certain age either, but the salons let you do it because they want the money. Same with piercings.

If they are under 16 and have it pierced, it means they did it themselves or unprofessionally, which i do NOT reccommend cause it can be easily infected and cause a lot of problems. if she's 15, she's almost old enough so she should just wait.

They probably got it done illegally or had somebody else do it for them, which I do NOT recommend.
