Because if we parked on the park way we would be in trouble, we can drive on the driveway but I wouldn't go very fast unless it is very long.

We drive on the parkway because Robert Moses planned parkways as leisure routes for weekend outings during the early car era near New York city. Later, these parkways became popular with commuters. Driveways are parked on because they provide access to the house. They are called driveways because you are able to drive up on them.
