I'm not an Atheist but I believe that the possibility of our planet being the only one close enough to a star to sustain life is absurd. There are many other galaxies out there that we haven't even started to explore. It would be vain of earthlings to believe we're the only ones.
As to whether the life forms are more advanced, who's to say? Suppose that would depend on what stage of evolution they're in.

This one believes that given that there are billions of galaxies each with billions of solar systems, it's incredibly likely that they contain life and that some of them have intelligent life. It's also likely for the same reasons that they are too far away for contact ever to be possible. And they may have peaked a million years ago for all we know, and since died out - the universe isn't only big, it's old. There's no reason why the chronology of one planet should coincide with that of another.

What has being an atheist to do with such conjecture? I would have thought that anyone at all could consider this possible.
Mathematically, there are so many possible opportunities for life-forms out there that there could well be not only other life-forms existing but they COULD be more advanced than we are. I doubt that we will ever know unless someone somewhere can enable us to travel faster than light.

Seeing as how we are taking such 'wonderful" care of our own planet, who says there is advanced life here??
As for life in outer space, and life on other worlds? Yes. it is to big a universe for just us. We may not find it in our solar system, as the rest of the our planets, can not support life as we know it. But there are other star systems, and other galaxies, far, far away. We probably won't even find them in our life time, and we don't have the technology, to get us to them yet, BUT we will, eventually.
I wish I could hang around to watch it, can we say, it would be just awesome?

I suppose it's possible. It would be awfully egocentric of me to presume that Earth is the only planet that could have life existing on it.
However, I don't "believe" it. I just concede to it's possibility. I would need way more evidence than what is presented to me at this point.
But logistically speaking, I don't see why another planet in this vast universe couldn't support life. Albeit, not life as we recognize it.

I am an atheist. It is possible. Judging by the quality of questions and answers here in Yahoo! Answers R&S, they are probably more advanced than humans if they exist.

Atheists have no belief in god. The idea of life on other planets would be different for each person.

The only thing we all agree on is ....we don't believe in God.
Every other thing in the whole world is individual.
There are Atheists who believe in life on other planets....and Atheists who believe we're it.
We are not a group....we are individuals.

It's possible, but it's even MORE possible that if there were life on other planets that it'd be a plant or bacteria.
No one knows for sure, I don't think it matters much what your spiritual beliefs are.
