While there are historical accounts of concubinage, polygamy, sodomy, rape, and other unmarried sexual acts, God never approves of such behavior. Some acts he calls sins, and others, the strongest word of condemnation: toevah, meaning abomination.

Jesus, the Word who was with God at the creation of the word, explained God's design for sexuality:

Mark 10:6: "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one."

Jesus quotes texts from Gen. 1:27 and 2:24. From the earliest memories of humanity, God designed the union of husband and wife, so that two--and only two--become one flesh.

Paul quotes the same scripture in I Cor 6 to demonstrate the perversion of God's design in prostitution: "Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, 'The two will become one flesh.'"

Worse, some reject not only the sexual exclusivity of marriage, but also a normal heterosexual orientation. Paul writes in Romans 1:

Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Conclusion: God designed sex to express the deepest intimacy of husband and wife, an act that leads to the conception of new life. Treating sex as some sort of itch to be scratched by a prostitute, a same-sex profligate, or any unmarried person, degrades sex from a foretaste of heaven to the grinding dissipation of hell.

Bruce

Fornication, having sex before marriage, is a sin.
Adultery, having sex with someone other than your spouse AFTER you are married, is a sin.

Fornication and adultery mentioned:
Galatians 5:19
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,

Colossians 3:5
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Why pornography or lusting after anyone other than your spouse is wrong:
Matthew 5:28
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Adultery:
Mark 10:19
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”

And it matters not what they did in the OT because we are no longer under that law, we are now under the NT law since Christ died on the cross for our sins.

There are many examples in the Bible of men who had concubines. Jacob had children from two women that were not his wives. Whether or not God actually approved of the cultural practice or not, I can't find.

Though in the Old Testament, polygamy was permitted.

No. God does not approve of adultery.
This is for our safety. STD's are very real and very scary.
Most people, whether they are religious or not, do not believe it is cool to be unfaithful to your spouse.
