Stay busy. Constantly. After work, go to the gym or go out running or walking. If you smoke, try not to, it just makes you want a drink. Take up a new hobby that keeps your hands busy. Learn to love iced tea. Clean something, rearrange a room, organize closets, put all those loose photos in an album, etc. Determine where and when you are mostly likely to be tempted. If it's when you're sitting on the couch watching TV, recognize that. If it's when you're on the computer, recognize that. When you realize it and feel the urge, then tell yourself NO and go do something else. If you find yourself not sleeping well, talk to a doctor about it. Best wishes in conquering it, you can do it. God bless.

Attend daily AA meetings, get a sponsor, form a network of other recovering people, learn to use the phone to call someone before you drink. Work the 12 step program - really work it! Don't skip your 4th step or be afraid of it. Learn to have fun in sobriety. Most people with some time behind them socialize and really have fun!!!!
Good luck!

Not dwell on the past, start one day at a time being in control. Of course, if the habit is health threaten, it is easier to realize the need to take control instead of the substance controlling you.

i go to AA meetings, talk to my sponsor regularly, work the 12 steps, and sponsor others. this helps me keep spiritually fit, and stay sober. i also live a happy life with my kids, my fiance, and my friends. i am grateful every day, that i was given the tools to get sober through AA.i start my day with meditation, asking for guidance; i end my day by reviewing my actions and i call my sponsor to do a 10 step, if needed.

I surround myself with positive clean people. I also co-facilitate a Group of Women who have been through the hell I once was in. This reminds me of the crap I was living in for so long. The Group gives me the incentive to never go back to that dark hole I was once in!
Hope this helped- Good luck and take care!
