By virgins they mean 'pure and innocent'. It's not a reference to sex. As there's no temptation in heaven, people won't need to have sex anyway.
Edit: To all the people who are calling muslim women oppressed and saying that muslim men treat us like "dirt" and make us wear hijabs and all that - APPARENTLY.
Very few people are forced into wearing it (don't forget there's a minority of bad people in every faith and culture etc).
I was not forced. I'm actually forced to take it off (but I don't) - and in my opinion THAT is oppression. It's people like you who are oppressing muslim women, telling us that we shouldn't wear the hijab. I'm not complaining about you, so leave me to live my life how I want.
And as I'm muslim, I KNOW what muslim men are like (not all). Obviously there are a few horrible abusive ones (just as there are of any other country/religion) but many treat their wives like queens! You listen to the news and you think you know everything about my religion, and you clearly don't, so find out for yourself!

I've read the Koran twice (just to make sure) and it's all mentioned in the book. The '72 virgins' is a mistranslation but I don't have my source off hand. Unfortunately, many Muslims believe what they are brought up to believe without ever questioning the validity of such statements. The same goes for ALL religions. Smarty pants indeed....I would think one woman is enough for any man!!

There will definitely not be 72 hot virgin for the women. In fact, there is quite a dispute over whether Muslim women GET to heaven according to Islam. Some have said that Muslim women only get to heaven if they die while their husband is pleased with them. It's bad news for them if they die when their husband is unhappy with them.
Funny thing is that Islam says that there will be more men than women in heaven. Reconcile that with the notion that every man gets 72 virgins. Yeah, I can't make it work out either.
As for putting the emphasis on good looks and beauty, I'd say the whole Islamic view on women goes further than even that. Women are often mistreated and oppressed by the tenets of Islam. It's sad, really.
