I'm doing a project for Health class about overdoses, and was wondering what would happen to a person if they took a whole bottle of tylenol? Like organ failure, death?

It causes liver failure, and then death. The main ingredient in Tylenol, acetaminophen, is extremely dangerous in high doses. That's why there is such a big push to advertise it's safety right now (The "Stop. Think. Tylenol." commercials.) People think it can't really hurt you because it's an over-the-counter drug, but it's very deadly if you're not careful with it.

Unless they get lucky by getting to an ER or vomiting the pills, the drug gets metabolized to a toxin and causes deadly liver failure. There is an antidote mucomyst, , but it needs to be given in time, and it has a really, really nasty taste, like concentrated sulfury well water.. And the liver failure is slow and irreversible, so it can take days to weeks to finally die. The patient usually feels extremely sick from all the toxins accumulating in the blood, and usually will beome yellow with jaundice.

What should I avoid while taking acetaminophen?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cold, allergy, pain, or sleep medication. Acetaminophen (sometimes abbreviated as APAP) is contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much acetaminophen which can lead to a fatal overdose. Check the label to see if a medicine contains acetaminophen or APAP.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of liver damage while taking acetaminophen.

If its something like advil, alieve or ibuprofen then it won't kill you or anything but its still a good idea to take the whole bottle. It will severly damage the liver. If its a prescribed pain killer then it will be only minutes before the drug will take effect then you WILL OD. Emergency aid will have to administered quickly before death.
