Not if you're on antibiotics, hon...that's a way of fighting the infection. If you'd have waited to go to the doctor, the infection could've gotten systemic and you'd have a chance of getting septic, a condition which IS fatal.

Well, you're friend was right, but he/she didn't tell you all the truth. While you can die from just about anything, including kidney/blood/urinary infections, it's not very likely. If your doctor sent you home, you're more likely to have a serious problem with a reaction to the antibiotics. If you've taken them before, I wouldn't worry. You didnt say what exactly the infection was, but if it was serious enough to be life threatening, your doctor would have to be pretty negligent to send you home. Watch for fever that spikes up quickly, allergic reactions to medication (rashes, pain, difficulty breathing, swelling), or blood (rusty coloured) in the urine. If you get any of this, or any other worrying symptoms, return to your doctor immediately. Kidney pain will show up as a feeling that a horse kicked you in the back, about 6 inches to either side of the spine. It can be pretty severe, so that is something to see the doctor about as well.

They don't send home fatally ill patients. Do you feel like you're abt to die? Have the meds kicked in? Your temperature is going down, and it doesn't hurt so much to pee?

Yes, I'm sure it could be fatal. Almost every type of infection could take over and kill you. But if your tests showed a really bad infection, they'd have to put you in the hospital for IV antibiotics and maybe? even dialysis.

If you don't feel better after a whole day of antibiotics, call the dr. You may need to change.

if you have been told you have bacteria in your blood stream (septecemia) you would likely need intravaneous antibiotics not just oral. get a new doctor, I am a nurse and if I were told that you would not be sending me home. If it is a kidney infection by itself you should be just fine taking oral antibiotics at home.

Don't worry. Take the antibiotics. It can only be fatal if caught in late stages and very serious.

Any kind of infection that goes untreated can potentially cause illness or death. You are taking antibiotics and are under the care of your doctor. You should be fine.

it can be if not treated but sounds like your dr is on top of it. Make sure you drink ton's of water to flush your kidneys and if you have pain get some (azo standard) at the grocery store or pharmacy and can drink cranberry juice or get cranburry capsules at the store to help flush and maintain healthy kidneys

what's your diagnosis? if the doctor thinks it's fatal, you wouldnt be sent home in the first place. so please try to stick with the medication regimen the doctor prescribed to you. and try to eat healthy foods and lots of fluids (if thats youre not in a fluid restricted diet).
