It is easy to judge someone if you haven't walked a mile in their boots. LEO, (Law Enforcement Officer) see and deal with so much every day, put their lives on the line every minute they are on duty and are not well paid. They go home to places where their families are not safe, worrying about who's going to follow them home. I am lucky to not live where I work but many of my brothers/sisters have to live in the cities where they serve and protect. Think about how you would feel if you arrested someone who had just raped a child. Think about the emotions you would be feeling if you were the one who arrived on the scene first to find a young child who had been violated? Do you think you would be able to control your rage? Would you have lashed out at the perpetrator? LEO's are not allowed to, we have to hold that in, not to let it out. When we go to court we find that our suspect has made bail, he's back on the streets. We have to follow the rules criminals do not. That same person will most likely have committed that act before and will try to do so again. Robots? Yeah, many of us probably act like a machine, sometimes its the only way to get through a shift. Our families pay dearly for the services we give to the citizens we protect. We have trouble sleeping, we fight often with those we love because we have trouble letting go of the things we see, hear and feel at work. Think about walking into a dark building with nothing more than a few inches of kevlar and a handgun, knowing that if you find a "bad guy" he'll probably have an automatic weapon with armor piercing rounds. Think you could do that job and still act happy go lucky?

I do not know about criticism but only robots or sociopaths would continue to enforce all the stupid destructive laws the corrupt politicians keep passing.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean why do people think police officers don't have feelings that are hurt when criticized?
