Hi, I have a 1996 hyundai accent 2 door 1.5L and was wondering if anyone knew the proper mpg I'm supposed to be getting. I noticed my gas going down quite fast ever since I got my car... so after a daily week of driving recently I noticed that I only get about 300km per tank. I have heard of other people say that they get 600km per tank on their older hyundai accent vehicles is this true? Any suggestions on how I can increase my mpg or what could be some problems?? Thanks

Ps: I'm a car newb lol
Thanks

It should be in the neighborhood of 30 miles per gallon in town and 38 miles per gallon on the highway.

Check your spark plugs, wires, Oxygen sensors and fuel filter

I bought a 07 Accent this past May and I have had incredibly good luck with this car. Most of my commute is highway driving with only three stoplights along the way. I accelerate gently and drive at around 55 MPH. Also, I changed the oil to synthetic. Not sure if that last bit helped me or not, but my last fill up resulted in 41 MPG. I don't drive to win the Indy 500 and I'm patient enough to let cars through instead of accelerating hard and getting in front of them. I'll let the dummies in their gas guzzling SUVs do that. You may get similar results with your 96 Accent seeing that it has a smaller motor and probably more lax pollution controls than an 07.
