1) I know it helps to control the population of deer, etc
2) And I know most kills are eaten..

However it still seems so wrong to kill a beautiful deer or any wild animal...

You sound like my niece. We took her with us hunting once and as I was aiming my gun, she looked to see what I was aiming at and yelled, "DON'T SHOOT IT TEM!"
It's not like we do it for fun (sometimes yeah), but we give thanks to the deer, every part of it is used by us, our family and a nearby tribe. The hide, the hooves, the bone marrow. I have respect in all that I do when it comes to hunting. My opinion in the matter. I don't feel addicted, just when we need to, we go.

You'd have to hunt to really understand. That rush you get from the chase. For some people it's a lot of things. But for me, I don't HAVE to come home with a deer. I might just enjoy being out in the middle of the woods, away from the rest of civilization and anything to bother me. It's a great feeling though when you do harvest an animal. And it's even better when your wife walks through the door and asks what smells so good on the grill. It's a lifestyle and a tradition.

You may be on to something here.
Hey guys lets all leave the beautiful deer alone and start hunting Ugly cows and ugly pigs and absolutely those ragity goats. As A matter of fact I really don't much care for the looks of cats either, and some dogs are just plain pitiful.
Anybody else have an animal they had just soon see hunted so we can leave the beautiful ones alone?

Because there is no gossip no backstabbing no taxes. There is an earthy reality that absorbs all my being. I can't hike and hear every leave fall. But when I am hunting

I hear everything and wait for the game to come out of the cover. I am putting my hairs on the head of the target squeezing the trigger I can feel the blood thumping in my ears and then..

Time stops

only my finger moves all I see is the picture bam time moves again seemingly faster as I cycle the action never taking my eyes from the scope alway on target. It falls. I start breathing. When did I stop? I don't remember. I triangulate the game go and get it.

Not once did I think of gossip, work or taxes.

If you manage to ban hunting you will wind up killing more "beautiful deer" in one 5 years than hunting kills in 50 years. See #1.

Obviously, you are not a hunter and it is unlikely that such an activity will ever be something in which you can find pleasure. That being the case, I would say that the answer to your question is no, I cannot explain to your satisfaction why hunting is so addictive. I can only say that those to whom the hunt is a thing which they thoroughly enjoy will simply enjoy the hunt and not try to explain it. In fact, they may not even know why they enjoy it. It is the same with those who enjoy watching a good ball game, or horeseback riding, or dancing, or archery, or anything which gives them pleasure. they may not be able to verbalize it but the pleaasure is there none the less. You just have to experience it to understand.

Adrenaline is just like an addictive drug. Nothing stirs up your fight or flight response like killing something. Same reason people keep getting on roller coasters, they're screaming from the adrenaline rush. Did you ever notice the ones that are screaming are the first to get back in line? It's addictive.

because all animals have the urge to hunt.,

Mother nature gives animals serious hormonal kicks for chasing and killing, in order to encourage them to get better at it.

Just like the different hormonal kicks from running, swimming, having sex, some can get addictive, and this is a good thing for survival....mostly a good thing anyway...

Hunger by itself not a good enough urge to hunt, because it makes you too eager and would make too many mistakes.

we don't need to hunt to kill anymore but we still have the same urges to do as much of it as cavemen did, since our bodies and hormones have not changed much in at least 40,000 years.

I hope this explains it.
