I don't have any bisquick or the like, but I have bread flour and other baking necessities, and any ideas for flavorings or toppings?

I never use a mix for pancakes. I have always made them from scratch and they are the lightest and best pancakes my family has ever had. Before mixing your ingredients, warm 3 to 4 tablespoons of vegetable/canola oil in a skillet. While that is warming (don't let it get too hot), in a mixing bowl, mix 1 to 1 1/1 cups flour, 1 egg, about 1 tablespoon baking powder and start with 3/4 cup milk and add till smoothness is desired. Then add your warmed oil and mix together. You can either use the same skillet you melted your oil in or use a griddle. I prefer to use my griddle. Pour enough onto the griddle for 4 pancakes at a time, about 4 to 5 inches in diameter (about the size of a saucer). When they bubble on the top, gently flip them over. They'll rise up and will quickly cook through over a medium high heat. When you remove them to a plate, go ahead and slather how ever much butter/margarine you want while they're hot to melt. We like maple syrup, blueberry or you can use a canned fruit pie topping with a little whipped topping or be creative and just use whatever you want. I promise you you'll never use a mix again and you might have to practice a few times, but the recipe will stay in your head and it's so easy and you can brag that it's from scratch. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them.

This is a recipe for making a crepe. What I like to do is put 1 1/2 slices of raw bacon in a skillet, partially cook it, drain off all but 1 tsp of fat, and pour just enough pancake mix in the pan to be able to "swirl" it around and cover the whole bottom of the pan. Let it cook until the edges start to lift up, flip it over and lightly brown it on the other side - the second side takes less time. Place on a plate and put in the oven on Warm. When you have all done the way you want, serve with butter and syrup. The bacon is soooo good in the pancake. If you just want to make the crepes without the bacon - follow the same instructions in cooking it without the bacon. Fill it with whatever filling you'd like.

Here's the recipe (very simple)

PANCAKES

1 egg
1 c flour
dash of salt
sugar to taste
1/2 c water
1/2 c milk

Mix all together until the lumps are gone. Follow instructions above.

For toppings i like the Hawaiian Topping
(its from a Betty Crocker cookbook)
Drain 1 can of crushed pineapple ( saving the juice )
Stir 1/2 cup of crushed pineapple into 1 cup of dairy sour cream
--------
for syrup :
heat to boiling reserved pineapple juice ( about 1/4 cup)
and 1/4 maple syrup

this Hawaiian topping is so good I use it all the time when I make pancakes.
but you don't have to use pineapple if you don't have any
you can use peaches, pears, apples... baked is the best ;) then spice up the fruit with a teaspoon of cinnamon
also what is good is just some sliced banana cooked in the batter
hope this helps
good luck!
