For the past 3 days, I have had these incredibly itchy red welts on my right leg (some on either side of the knee and a few on my thigh), one on each inner thigh, some on my lower left side of the abdomen and a bunch on my lower right abdomen. The early ones seem to slowly becoming less swollen, but the more "recent" ones seem to get redder as the days go on. I tried antihistamine and creams, but nothing works. Last monday i wore new sweatpants to the gym, and I didn't have time to prewash them. the spots on my legs are in the kinds of positions that would be irritated the most by the cloth, but I am unsure if this is a contact rash...would it really last this long? I can't imagine what else it could be. (another thought I had was mono) I am going to see a doctor tomorrow, but any suggestions for temporary relief would be greatly appreciated
thanks!

I am guessing tinea corporis or ring worm. It is a kind of fungus that is very common. Without seeing it and not being a doctor, I wouldn't presume to diagnose, but that is what it sounds like.

it could be regualr hives but since it's contained in that certain area..
I would say it is probably from your sweatpants not being pre-washed and then sweating with them on..
It could also maybe be a form of a heat rash.

Go to Wal-Mart or CVS and get some Claritin Hive Relief, it's about $7 and it works wonders, you only have to take 1 a day until it goes away.
If they are there longer than 7 days you need to go see your doctor.

You could have contact rash, hives, or many other things. I hope the antihistamine you are using is Diphenhydramine (brand name Benadryl) as it is the best for rash and hives caused by allergic reaction. If Cortisone cream doesn't work, you may try Calamine lotion, if you haven't already. If nothing else helps, you can try brewing up some tea (in bags) let the tea cool, remove the bags and dab the moist tea bag on the affected areas. Try a test area first and see if it helps or not. The tanic acid contained in the bags seems to help me in a situation such as yours.

Here's wishing you the best, I'm sure the Dr. will have you all fixed up tomorrow! I also suffer from hives from time to time and know how utterly frustrating they are!!!

Over the counter benadryl tablets will lessen the symptoms. Take them as directed on the box and do it consistently. Also, I would not be putting those sweat pants back on until I washed them. Your susupicions are probably right. Once hives appear, it takes 2-3 days before they begin to disappear. Mono usually does not manifest itself as hives.

the hives are an allergic reaction that manifests through the skin. If you've tried everything else go to the dr or the hospital they will give you a steroid shot that will clear it up. the longer you wait the worse it gets. They will also give you an rx for a prescription strength anitihistimine like atarax or vistaril. Trust me been through it. Here's a link to help with more info.

I benadryl cream is not working, try over the counter hydrocortizone cream instead.

I feel your pain. I get a persistent rash on the inside of my left arm at the elbow region. Benadryl cream was not cutting it, but the hyrocortizone cream works great. You can get a generic version at Wal-greens or any other drug store.

Hope you feel better. Oh, and wash the sweatpants! :)

I believe you have the same condition as me.. It is hard and annoying , and for me took almost 7 years to figure out.
It sounds like you have Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
Reoccuring boils , in areas like legs, thighs, groin, armpits.. etc.. where skin rubs... they leave nasty black/blue/purple marks when they leave... and almost always get another.. seems like you are in beggining stage 2. here is a wikipedia link... print it out and take it to your Derm or DOC ..asap!!

The last thing you want is to keep all the histamine from rising up to your skin, so try to take an ice cold shower to keep the capillaries in your extremities constricted... then the stuff that makes you itchy has a harder time of reaching your skin.

other than regular hives, the only thing i can think of is contact dermatitis. this sounds similar to a rash my son had with it.

Continue what you are doing...add a liberal amount of baking soda to a cool (luke warm) bath and soak 10-15 mins a few times a day to help relieve itch and burning until you see your doctor.
