I was given an interoffice mailer with what looked like a bloodstain on it. The mailer sat on my desk at least a day before I touched it and noticed the stain. Is there any chance of catching HIV from this? What about anything else?

HIV don’t hang around on surfaces very long. But some HEPATITIS VIRUS can last a week in a dried bloodstain, just lie there dormant. When it gets moist again, it can be infectious. Some of the SPORE-FORMING organisms can last indefinitely - ANTHRAX is one example. MRSA is another blood-borne and can stay for a while.

Therefore......No risk of getting HIV. If you touched it but you have no open wound or cut, nothing to fear from hepatitis or MRSA. If you strongly fear of getting infected, eat more fruits and vegetables to boost your immunity. If you feel something strange which possibly signals an infection, see a doctor at once.

Hopefully you will be fine.
