How do you (Christians) respond to atheists who think you're an idiot because you believe in Jesus?

By "militant" I really meant the atheists who are not only against Christians, but are just down right intolerant of Christians, the Bible, God, or anything spirtitual.

Jesus might suggest forgiveness.

I'm assuming you mean here, in this forum, or, by extension, in computer forums like this one?
It isn't necessary to respond to them at all, is it?
Most of the time "militant atheists" who make remarks like this are simply trying to get a rise out of someone. When they can get an angry response from some Christian whose feelings they managed to hurt, they feel somehow as if they scored some kind of point.
Most of the time, I just say a quick prayer for whoever it is, and move on. Sometimes, I will try to respond in a way that I hope will make the poster think. If the remark is really nasty, sometimes I will report it, and move on. Every now and then, if I'm having a really bad day, I let my feelings get hurt, and I respond in kind. Generally, that's when I get a "violation notice"...but even if I don't, I'm usually sorry I let myself get angry, anyhow.
Angry retorts do not bring glory to Christ...

Militant Islam: Planes in buildings.
Militant Christianity: Bombs in abortion clinics.
Militant atheism: Making fun of Christians.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

There is nothing to respond to.

What exactly is militant about thinking someone is an idiot? Does that mean all Christians are militant as well for not only thinking non Christians are idiots but saying they will go to hell as well?

No wait, too many Christians really are militant...

We aren't the ones gloating over people going to hell or a war to end all wars. Get real. We aren't the militants. What I have seen on here and the news is the new christian terrorists. And, you want to complain about Islamic terrorists. You are no better. We Atheists want peace in the world. You are war mongers full of hate and spite. I don't see Jesus in you. He was never this way.

Burn 'em at the stake. There's no such thing as a militant atheist.

edit: I'm not against christians or any other religion for that matter. I am not against anything you claim as spiritual. I don't know any atheist who are what you describe for that matter. So I say again there is no such thing as a militant atheist. We object to you people who want to force us into your mindset and use the government to make your religion into law. I will fight you to the death to stop you from that. Understand?

I try to be kind, but it really hurts me.
I am well educated. I am a good person. I am very intelligent, and I try to treat others the way I want to be treated.

One of them wrote to me and told me I was unworthy of any respect because I believe in Jesus.

I choose to believe that people like that are very rare.

Cas's answer is way cool!
Thanks!

I smile remembering that God said that the "wisdom of God is foolishness to the "wise" of this world... they cannot understand the things of God because they are spiritually discerned"... then I continue to treat them with respect and kindness and pray for them.

I never quote the Bible, but I am going to have to this time:

Proverbs:
26: 4 -- Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
26: 5 -- Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Christian or not, it's some good advice.

These are popular:

"Look, do you want to go to Hell?"

"It's true because it's in the Bible"

"How can you live your lives without meaning?"

"Well I choose to believe that the universe didn't just pop out of nowhere"

"If humans evolved from monkeys then why are there still monkeys?"

And so on.
