It may not be dandruff. If you've tried different dandruff shampoos and nothing seems to work, you may have Seborrheic Dermatitis which is a very common skin condition that affects millions of Americans. It's harmless but annoying. I thought for years that I had dandruff and finally went to the dermatologist a few years ago and was mistaken. I always wondered why the dandruff shampoos weren't working for me.

Hope this helps!

I have heard of two methods when dandruff shampoo doesn't work.
1. Soak the top of your head in vinegar for several minutes. Let it dry a little, and then wash it regular. Do this for a few days in a row.
2. Dandruff is not caused by dry skin, as many tend to believe, but by a type of skin yeast. Use a anti-yeast cream, such as Vagisil, and rub it onto your scalp. Wear it overnight, possibly with a towel on your pillow to protect it, and then wash the stuff off in the morning.

Sorry, but once you get dandruff, you can't get rid of it but you can control it by using a shampoo made for those with dandruff. Selsun Blue is the best on the market right now. It may dry your hair out & if so, use a shampoo that contains conditioner once in a while so your scalp won't dry out. Pantene & Suave both make such a shampoo/conditioner combo.

No specialist would tell u this. if u keep ur hair dry, there will be dandruff. The best way to encounter dandruff is to not to keep your skull skin dry up.

Taking showers frequenly will definitely help (using shampoo). But, a good solution, would be to use hair oil (I don't know if u r familiar with hair oil). We (in Bangladesh) use hair oil and it doesn't let the moisture in the hair dry up.

You can go to any Indian store and ask if they have coconut hair oil. I m very positive you'll find it very helpful.

To summarise,

-- Wash ur hair at least once a day
-- Take a lillte bit of hair oil (less than one teaspoon) and rub it all over your hair. Do it after you take your shower and dry up your hair
-- Use shampoo at least once a week

I am very positive about the efficacy of my solution

Go to the nearest pharmacy. Buy " Softee".(near the hair products; it 's in a jar with a blue cap) It is a combination of coconut oil and jojoba oil. Massage this into your scalp at night. It won't stain... then shampoo it out in the morning. You'll have shiny hair , too !Eventually, you'll only have to do this a couple of times a week. Don't use dandruff shampoos... they just dry the scalp out. Use a coconut shampoo with Vitamin E, or any good moisture shampoo.

A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water. More simple remedies for dandruff at http://usefulinfo-dandruff.blogspot.com/

Selsun Blue or there are some Tersa Tar shampoos.
Go to a pharmacy/drug store where you are comfortable and ask to talk with someone about the best shampoo for you!
There are a lot of them out there and they do many jobs.
We get this a lot at the store I work at and the pharmacist asks what the problems are and then picks out the best suggestions! Good luck! I've had issues before and managed to get rid of mine. It comes back the odd time but I get it under control right away.

Nizoral. It's available at drugstores.

Also, it's good to alternate dandruff shampoos every so often. 1 week use a shampoo where the active incredient is pyrithione zinc, then the next week switch to a dandruff shampoo with a differenct active incredient like coal tar or ketoconazole.

try selsun shampoo. its the cheapest one that you can buy over the counter . my hubby uses it about once a week and his dandruff is so much better..u could also try nizoral but its more expensive but still very effective. head and shoulders is totally crap as far as my man is concerned.try rinsing with a tea tree oil based toner after you shampoo as this can help with treating the bacteria on the scalp which can be the cause for dandruff. good luck.

What worked for me is to go to the drug store and buy 'Tea Tree Oil' it should be in a brown bottle about one ounce sells at Wal-Mart for $4.99 or so. mix half the bottle with a cup of water and work it into your hair. You should feel it working as it is a natural cleaner. It may take two or three applications but it does work. This will also help clear up rashes, pimples and acme, as well as other problems. Only use on the body's exterior and keep out of your eyes.
