I was just wondering about BDSM. I'm not into it and never will be. I was wanting to know if BDSM is a sin in Christianity. Is it a sin to inflict pain on others for sexual arousal? If so, why is it a sin? I'm curious to know about this. Also, do Christians believe that BDSM behavior is a mental disorder, like homosexuality and lesbianism?

You could have defined it (is it bondage.etc.,etc, etc?) - It is not what God desires or what a loving relationship really needs.

Christians are supposed to abide by the ten commandments, and whilst they do not specifically rule against hurting others for pleasure, the first three commandments do give specific rules which make BDSM incompatible with Christianity.

1 Though shalt have no other gods but me.

That rules out just about every relationship based on BDSM.

2.You should not make yourself any idol nor bow down to it, or worship it.

Ditto

3. You must not misuse the name of the lord your god

I guess that makes all those masters and lords in BDSM condemned to the fires of hell, but they will probably like it.

Its interesting this correlation between self flagellation which is practised in the Muslim religion as well as Christianity, and BDSM.
This practise is normally only ever used by the more extreme sects in secret, and is frowned upon by mainstream Christians. In-dead there is a sect in the U.S. calling themselves Christian Domestic Discipline (CDD) who effectively live master slave relationships but use the bible as their rational. CDD and BDSM hate each other not because of what they do, but because of the dogma they use to excuse their own form of abuse
Its not only Christians who believe that BDSM is a mental disorder, it is classified as an illness in the United Nations international classification of diseases, (ICD10). It is under the heading of mental disorders, sub heading of sexual disorders alongside Paedophilia. (F65.5)

why would it be considered a sin when it is normally done betweeen consenting adults who are sharing a intimate moment, bdsm is NOT about pain or wishing to inflict inury on someone else, it is about exchanging of power, giving up control to another, and trust in your partner. BDSM is a part of human sexuality which is a God given gift.

FYI from an atheist (and also one who is involved in a D/s BDSM lifestyle) - The pious and devout Penitentes of New Mexico practice self-flagellation, which could be regarded as a form of BDSM.

I would imagine that it is only considered a sin when practiced outside of marriage.

Nothing is mentioned in the 10 commandment about your pleasures nor homosexuality. Just be good be nice. That is all that counts in life.
