The same reason as Aliens speak English in films like Star Trek and Star Wars...the audience would need sub-titles otherwise.
Imagine an English person in ,say, Alabama saying..."I'm just popping out for a quick f ag...." or an American asking an English woman if he can tap her on the fanny.

Because, had Daphne said 'tap' (like we would), the American viewers wouldn't have known what she meant. Don't forget that Frasier was made for American television.

Oh no, guys! A character in a television show for an American audience whose actress is told to read her lines as it is written by the script writers said something most people of the country she is representing wouldn't say. It's the end of the world. :(

Because it is an American show, with a Brit living and working in America and when you live and work in a foreign country you start to use terms local to where you are.

Because the mainly American audience would not understand if she used english words. Plus if youve lived there for a while, you start using their words any way, so she prob would have said it.

i am fed up with more and more people using american english.why do this.when i was growing up i wanted to be a fireman,now my grandson wants to be a firefighter.our local council has a highways maintenance van.i thought we had motorways and on and on

If you take the show as a show, so the viewers would know what she meant.
If you take the show as reality, so the people she was talking to would know what she meant.
