Don't know about the rest of the UK, but an eye test is free in Scotland, and you will be given the prescription for new glasses if required, you can get them at any optician or an independent such as Spectacles Direct, which is where I go as they are much cheaper than opticians.

Well, I wear glasses and the last place I went to now write to me regularly to remind me that I have not had an eye test for 4 years. They say that I can get an eye test for £10. That is all very well, but what about the frames and lenses? I can't afford £200 or £300 or whatever they charge. So I am going on with my existing glasses. I KNOW that if I go for the eye test the optician wil tell me that I need new glasses. Everyone is selling something all the time.
Anyway, I can read a newspaper, I can read the text on the internet, so I will go on until I have to admit defeat ...
Opticians are as competitive as everyone else, so you will find that the cost of an eye test will vary enormously. They all want your business.

It varies what you pay the region the place i flow is £20 for eye examination yet I declare this decrease back in a wellness center fund. They propose to get your eyes checked ever 2 years and supply you with a sparkling prescription climate you eye sight has replaced or no longer - in case you prefer glasses/touch lenses based what sort you %. is variable on what it costs - the place I stay we've a place that does frames and glasses at a million/2 the fee of an opticians - desire this facilitates

It costs £15 for an eye exam. Opticians will only supply lenses from a prescription, which they issue after the eye test is completed.

about £15 for a eye test unless you are over 60 then it is free you do need a prescription that is done by where you have your eye test you buy your frames and lenses separately and if you shop around you can get them for less than £100 if you want designer frames then be prepared to be ripped off

It's about £30 for an eye test. But may be dearer in the south. Sorry I'm not sure about the lenses etc as I don't wear glasses.
Some people can get it free IE those on benefits and these who have certain eye illness in their direct family.

PS I know this as I went a couple of weeks ago.
