No, They are totally different. The tranny sits behind the motor like an Audi in the Passat and it sits alongside the motor in a beetle. Plus the space between the wheels is way different.
Rebuilt axles are available at NAPA for less that the cost of repairing an axle. Check with an alignment shop for any specials or sales.
