A map and an article to help you understand, why America needs to do something about this poison. America should be taking the lead on this issue, but the people are so undereducated and ignorant to the facts.

Simple enough question but there isn't a simple answer.

Three years ago it was expected that by the end of this year China would be the world's number one emitter of CO2 and would be producing about 5.5 billion tons. However, emissions from the US have risen faster than were expected and the US now emits 6.2 billion tons.

China doesn't publish any official figures. Estimates are based on old data which is revised to take account of the expanding economy, fossil fuel imports and production, and on information provided by western companies in China - most notably BP.

The Chinese economy has expanded faster than expected and it's likely that they exceeded the figure of 5.5 billion tons as much as a year ago, the true figure could be closer to 6 billion tons, it may even be more.

It looks like the US is still the number one emitter with China a close second and poised to take the top spot soon, if not already.

A more reliable way of measuring CO2 emissions is on a per capita basis. Listing by total emissions simply means that developed countries with a large population top the list and as such it's to be expected that China and the US will come top. The remainder of the top 10 when measured this way are Russia, India, Japan, Germany, Canada, UK, S Korea and Italy.

Ranked on a per capita basis the list is distorted by unusual circumstances. For example, islands with military bases on them, small oil producing countries, countries with a disproportionate number of tourists to residents.

If no account is taken of unusual circumstances then Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait top the list, excluding anomalies then Luxemborg, the US and Canada top the list.

Hi, surprisingly probably, for you, is the knowledge that it is not North America, nor China who produce the most CO2 emissions...it is the trees of Brazil that are responsible for that honour.

In terms of industrial emissions, which I suspect is what you would like confirmation about, then it is back to the big two, plus a closely following India and parts of Europe.

But don't forget those trees...of course they do use some of it during the hours of daylight. But, as I said, they do actually produce more Carbon Dioxide than the big two put together.

Cheers and breathe deeply.

So you know the answer to this question, however think of America and China as the world's liberators so the sooner mother nature is pushed beyond the edge, the sooner she can wipe out enough humans to bring back balance to the planet. It is either that or one hell of a motivator to start planetary colonization.

America is taking action. Shame you aren't aware. Pollution control is a multi billion dollar business.

Current pollution controls have move the USA down to second, below China and just slightly above India of producers of green house gases.

Per production, the US has one of the lowest rates of ghg emissions.

Where there's more Capitalism, there's less pollution as the customer base demands cleaner products and the free market delivers.

People emit CO2 when they breathe.
The fizz in sodas and beer is CO2.
If you realy want to cut down CO2 quite drinking cokes and beer.
If you want to cut down on the CO2 plant some Grass or any green leafy plants, the more green the better . as they breathe in the CO2 and convert it to Oxygen.

Perhaps you should write or call Bush and share your findings and opinions with him. Maybe that will make a difference!
