Almost all the people I work with are Muslims, for my boss is a Muslim. Despite what the religion may teach, most not only have pre-marital sex but after marriage they commit adultery. One of my co-workers even has two seperate families, one with his wife that he brought over here from the West Bank and the other is a black American woman whom he is not married to. He has children with both women. None of the ones I work with seem to believe that there is anything wrong with it. I have been told that when it comes to infidels they can do anything such as sex acts, lie to, steal from etc. and it is not sin because the act was performed against an infidel.

premarital sex is forbidden strictly. People who does, will be submitted to 100 lashes for doing so. Why? This is because, premarital sex had something to do with releasing hormones and bacterias that causes contagious, dangerous and fatal diseases such as AIDS, Siphyllis, and lots. But why 100 lashes?
The lashes would trigger the body to release antibiotic in the body that would reduced the possibility of getting those diseases. U see, islam is nothing bout cruelty. Everything in islam has their own reasons

What you are talking about is called Nikah Mutah. It is as you say strictly a Shiite belief. But as per it's name you still have to be married for this relationship. It is also known as a temporary marriage. One translation of this type of marriage is Marriage for Pleasure. It is not practiced by the majority of Muslims.

Those of us who are Sunni do NOT practice Nikah Mutah.

i m from shia school of thought in Islam in which we can do sex to a girl
for a time period we will have to pay her and take care of her expenses it is called "mutha"
it's a bit controversial in Muslim Sunni do not do that so
any Sunni this is not for you only shia belief
it is from history
in war time there could be any stage in which man figure down there are more girls less men to take care so the girl could do that

Well, it's fornication...it's strictly forbidden, and punishable under sharia law...under an islamic government, a fornicator would receive 100 lashes (i think there has to be 4 witnesses or sumthing like that, tho)...of course, I don't know too much about sharia law. But it's DEFINITELY forbidden and considered a great sin!! Once married though, sex is perfectly fine ;-)

I know Islam does have very strict laws about it, especially for the women.

But when I was in college, there were quite a few Muslim guys going there and many of them were having premarital sex and drinking, too.

Its the same in every religion. Christianity and Jewdaism doesn't accept it. In fact its very cultural, especially in Asian countires. sex out of wedlock is adultery. One of the biggest sins you can commit.
