I have to edit video clips from a kodak camera for a school project. Windows Movie Maker will not read QuickTime format, which is how the videos are. How do I convert the videos free, easily, safely? What should I do? in a non-sketchy way that won't mess up my computer?
Thank You..

If installing the QuickTime player doesn't install the necessary codecs, you can use ffmpeg to convert between many different video formats.

It's hard to find, but you can download it at:
http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/ or

If you are bedazzled by the archive formats on the above sites, you can also get an older version of ffmpeg by installing Riva's flash encoder and copying ffmpeg to a directory in your search path.

ffmpeg is a command line program. If you're not computer and video format savvy, this could be a can of worms to get working as it will take time to figure out the command line switches. If the command line stuff isn't your bag of tea, you can try various GUI wrappers for ffmpeg. Perhaps:

Be sure to do a virus check on any of these downloads.
