i dont think its fair that women dont get the chance to go out there. i wanted to be a tank operator. but because i am a female they wouldnt let me. so thats why i turned down the army. i ended up joining the air force as a SERE specialist. i leave march 25 for basic and im signing up for 6 years to go in as E-3. i hunt and play paintball and do all that guy stuff. i know for a fact that i am capable of going to war. i just wish i could be given the chance. ive watched too many war movies i guess. i want to be a hero. i wont be seeing the front lines so i went AF for a good, solid career and life.

First of all: I am not sexist in the slightest. I am a female combat medic/LPN serving in the Army - and have been deployed OEF in 2006. In today's wars - there is NO front lines. Insurgeants are everywhere. They don't go by the hundreds in nice formations like military tactics as in other wars. The wars against the Taliban and al Qaeda fighters and insurgants in Iraq are all over the place and again - no front lines.

As far as why they wouldn't let you be a tank operator because you're female has nothing to do with the fact that they don't want females on the front lines. Females are outside the "wire" all the time on unit convoys. In general females are not as strong as men (and yes I say this knowing that there are men that are not as strong as me) and that creates issues. It's not really being sexist, but being safe.

For the record, you can be a "hero" and not have a strictly "manly" job. Ironically, most high honored military awards are given to medics - where most females are positioned.

Combat Arms Careerfields are all male for a reason and need to continue to be so. There is a large difference in being an infantryman that is on the offensive performing a movement to contact mission then a someone who defends their position from an attack. These Combat Arms Careerfields need to stay men only.

People dont understand that in combat it is that people can and will die. It is the wrong place to push for equil rights. Leave that for the Office, not a place where yours or my life is on the line.

1. Women aren't built like men. I am not saying that their aren't women out there that could kick my butt, but in general men are stronger. Not being sexist, its just the norm.

2. Women already have double standards in the military requiring different PT scores. If women are as equil as men, then they should be one PT standard for both males and females.

3. It disrupts unit cohession.

4. Living conditions need to be adjusted at forward locations. You can cram 50 guys into a single hallway with open bay showers and tiolets. What happens when you began to add females? Yes I know that FOBs and COPs in Iraq and Afghanistan have female and male showers, but not all locations are like that and you never know what future situations will occure.

In the end, if you want to be in a combat role, I suggest becoming a female MP. They perform presence patrols throughout theater and sometimes do make contact. One female MP about 2 years ago was even awarded the Silver Star after killing 2-4 insurgents.

Lastly, please never say you are calable of going to war. It sorta insults us that actually have because you dont know what your talking about.

Though, I do wish you the best of luck in your new life as a SERE Specialist. You guys do a lot of good work.

PS. I am not sexist. I fully support womens equality and rights. I just believe that battlefield is a different place.

first of all, if you wanted to fight you wont do that in the air force, they dont fight, marine corps is where u want to go. but no service will let u fight, which is a good thing, u think u could handle it, but u cant. war isnt like hunting and playing paint ball, 12 year olds can do that. how are you goin in as an E-3, thats bs. must be a (ch)air force thing. i work with females and im glad as hell they arnt allowed to fight, they would get a lot of people killed. as u probably would. which is why females arnt allowed to be on the front lines. they are not physically or mentally fit to do it.

If they are mentally and physically trained for it then I say yes. There are some woman that are TOUGHER than men. (sorry guys).

Through discussions over the years though part of that issue comes from some of the male soldiers not being confident having a woman beside them on the front line for many reasons. There are concerns about them being raped, getting too emotional, etc. There are many other reasons but alot of male soldiers don't have a problem with it.

I'd be comfortable with you having my back so go for it and good luck!

I feel the same way!!!!! It is totally not fair. People talk about how the world is all fair now and everything and how woman have equal rights. It's still not true. I mean, come on, take this for example. Women should be able to fight and stand up for their country just the same as men! We go through the same training! BCT and AIT is no different for woman as it is for men.... Arg, not fair!

Then you will have to convince the Congress to change the law and also overcome the advice provided to the Congress by the Defense Advisory Committee on Women In The Service (DACOWITS). They are the ones who form the barrier on this issue. Not the men.

Well thank you for supporting our country. I am enlisted as an artilleryman in the army and I can't be in the infantry because I have red/green colorblindness. It sucks not being able to do something that means so much too you, but hey the army is reconsidering that policy :)

Only if they meet the requirements. If you simply want token females on the battlefield's front lines for the sake of sexual equality, than I would have to disagree with you.

Anyone who can carry his own weight should be able to. As a tanker, that means you need to be able to pull a 245 pound man out of a burning tank, as you might have to at some point.
