Please be more specific. There have been 265 popes during the last couple of thousand years. Which one are you accusing?
If the translation of the Bible was faulty, either by incompetant translators or, even worse, by design then the pope may have been completely justified in burning the Bible to protect believers.
Moreover, while most popes (but not all) were born in Europe, they are not "the European Pope." The current pope, Benedict XVIII, is the senior pastor of over one billion Catholics world wide.
In 2002, the Catholic population was 1,070,315,000:
+ 137,428,000 in Africa
+ 534,339,000 In America (North and South)
+ 110,234,000 in Asia
+ 279,915,000 in Europe
+ 8,399,000 in Oceania
With love in Christ.

The Bible is at best a symbol, a representation. A copy of the Bible is not in and of itself a holy object.
If we venerate the Bible, we are worshipping it.
Better we should be concerned about how we treat each other, how we honor God by the use of our lives to the betterment of the world around us, than to worry about whether a book burning was a sin or not.
I'd think we'd be a lot more concerned about burning of human beings--or any living thing, for that matter.
