I think the food industry is trying to give us a 1 second meal and this is how they achieve it.They must add preservatives and give it a long shelf life. I don't think a person that has always lived in the city has really tasted an egg fresh from a chicken and I bet they would not like the taste of fresh milk either, because they have never had it "good".

This is kind a weird question.

I think your tastebuds have changed.

If anything, food today is tastier. All you have to do is look at the average American (I'm assuming you are in America, we are probably one of the few cultures which would complain about the taste of food we don't usually even prepare ourselves, when a majority of the rest of the world is starving).... see the paunches, see the bellies, see the rush for diet pills and bariatric surgery.

We are eating, and plenty.

If you prefer "delicious simple hearty foods like we used to have" then I suggest you learn to cook! There is nothing stopping you from preparing those foods yourself!

I agree. The bread seems to be unbaked, vegetables are canned. I would say go to farmers markets for the good stuff and try to make meals yourself. Might not have time to that everyday, but try to when you can.
I'd say money caused the change. Way more money made by things that can last a long time because they don't go bad as fast. Still fishy. :- /

I noticed all the food is made to be quick and easy , quantity over quality. Everything is chewy, gooey and cheesy, everything to make the average American FAT. So i deiced to do the same thing as my grandmother, everything is home made. For example I found 2 recipes for potato soup, one called for no actual potatoes, it asked for potato flakes and lots of milk and cheese, hm mm? the other, this one i used, called for chicken stock, 8 medium potatoes, sweet cream, onions, parsley and little garlic. So I now cook old fashioned like grandma to keep my family healthy.

That's why some of us cook the old fashioned way. Also note that most questions on this site ask for "Quick And Easy" Recipes. NOT Nutritious, delicious, and Healthy.!!!!!!

LOL too ...

Maybe you should stop eating frozen food. Buy fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and fish and learn to cook.

Yes! Let us lobby for a return to the "Good Old Days", when there was a worm in every apple, weevils abundant in our flour, and our meat was gray and a bit, well, stinky!

Eat fresh foods, not prepared, and get them from farmers' markets.

Everything is so overprocessed that we lose so much nutrition. Preservatives, genetic engineering.... In our full speed ahead, don't really want to know what's in it if it cooks fast lives, we give up so much!!!
