I moved to a new town and was looking for a new church. I found one with a minister whose preaching I enjoyed, etc., and started going.
Then, after several months had passed, I attended a gathering of the church members and a woman who was a member said to me: "what is your connection with this church?"
I said, "what do you mean? This is the church where I go. I've been coming here for months."
What kind of connection was she looking for?

Some people have a problem with conversation. I'd say she is one of them, and she was really just trying to be friendly.

attending a church does not automatically make you a member. it may depend on the type of church but certainly those I have been to you have to become a member to attend members meatings.

Maybe she was asking did volunteer in the church, like ushering, choir etc.... Did you join the church yet? Are you a member?

Yes, I think it was pretty rude. If you like the word preached there, though, don't let her need to feel self-important keep you from going back.

Was she older? Maybe she meant to ask if you had a relative who used to attend the church.
I think she was being nosy and rude.
