What is the best way to copy the entire contents of a computer to an external hard drive

I generally store all my computer data into one main directory that includes subdirectories to how I arranged them under my computer. In that case, I can copy the data by simply highlighting the directory highlighting the contents, right click>copy and then clicking copy. At that point you can drag it to what ever storage drive you highlighted next to it. As far as your operating system and the rest of your software, in most cases now a days, you get one chance to burn your entire computer contents onto disk for back up. If that is what you're asking, there is different software that each PC maker uses and you can just call and ask then-generally free of charge

The best way would be to remove the hard drive from the external enclosure, connect it to your system as a slave and then use Ghost or any other good imaging program to image one drive onto the other.
