Eggs came along a long time before there were chickens. Lizards were laying them for millions of years before there were ever any birds. Slowly these lizards evolved feathers. Like it or not the fossil record does exist for this idea. Identical skeletons have been found, some with feathers, some without.
At some point an egg hatched and what came out looked sufficiently different from what had been coming out before that someone named it chicken.
So this answer is not as difficult to understand as philosophers have lead us to believe.

It is chicken. An egg needs three things to produce a chicken. 1. A chicken 2. Another to put an egg into it. and 3. A chicken to incubate it.
A chicken can just lay the egg as a matter of routine after just one copulation.
Naturally, unless there is a chicken, there cannot be an egg. So, chicken is the first.

I think that the chicken came first, because if you are Christian, and belive in the creation, God created animals.... not eggs! But you need a chicken to make an egg, and a eggs to make a chicken, so it's the cycle of life!

If you mean 'what came first the chicken or the CHICKEN egg?' then i don't know. Otherwise its egg. Dinosaurs laid eggs and thay were around long before chickens. And if your a creationist well then you can just eat my ****.

Its all about evolution, its most likely that the "chicken" came before the egg.

The egg... and it was a dinosaur egg that evolved into a chicken. It has now been proven that with at least one dinosaur the DNA is closest to a chicken.
