Boiled down to it, homosexuals are the same as heterosexuals, except that they have sex with and carry on relationships with members of the same sex.
I'm not asking about promiscuity or diseases, neither of which is exclusive to homosexuality. I'm not asking about sex outside of marriage (which is ironic -- gays can only have sex outside of marriage because they aren't ALLOWED to marry). I'm asking about homosexuality in and of itself.
In YOUR OWN words, why is homosexuality wrong? Really think about it...not "it's just gross" or "it's wrong"...WHY? How is loving another human being WRONG? If it's because your god says so, or your god sees it as an abomination...WHY?

EnviroDude: The human race is in no danger of dying out because too few people are procreating. The acceptance of homosexuality is not going to suddenly cause the birth rate to drop to zero. Homosexuals do not make up NEARLY enough of the population to do that.
Also, if society dropped the stigma attached to being gay, they WOULDN'T be killing themselves in record numbers.
I am not disregarding AIDS/HIV or any other disease. Quite the contrary, actually...those diseases, and any other STD's, are not exclusive to homosexuality, therefore "being gay is wrong because it spreads AIDS" is flawed logic.

Carrying on the family name -- so you would also be devastated if you had nothing but daughters, since only sons carry on the family name?
Most homosexual men would change if given the opportunity? Your ignorance astounds me. (BTW, I'm married to a man, but am still sexually attracted to women...it's not something that just "goes away").

Leviticus 20:13

These verses are found within the "Holiness Code" which emphasized to the Israelites that they were to be set apart to God from the rest of the nations. The CONTEXT is God's prohibition that the Israelites must not engage in the practices found in the nearby fertility cult of Molech and Ashteroth. Look at the beginning of the chapter and you will see this clearly:
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
4 Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.
5 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
As religious cults tend to ignore the Scriptural context in order to justify their doctrines, so too well meaning Christians sometimes take a verse here or there without considering its context when it appears, at first glance, that the verse supports their position. Such is the case here.
The God of Israel never directed the people to engage in ritual sexual magic as the Pagan religions around them did, and yet certain of God's people were practicing these rites. Such was unacceptable to God because: "Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God."
The word "Abomination" used here is a translation of the Hebrew word to-ay-baw which specifically refers to idolatrous practices that are displeasing to God. This word has nothing to do with sexuality, neither homo nor heterosexual, unless that sexuality is directly involved in the worship of other gods. Hence, this prohibition is the same as Paul's concern in Romans 1 and I Corinthians 6:9. The reference here is to the fertility worship, i.e. sex rites, which the Israelites were to shun. They were to only walk in paths directed by their God. In the following verses (6 on), many of these forbidden activities are specifically listed.
Note the verse just before the one we are considering here (verse 19):
"And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD:
Allowing ones semen to be used in Pagan rites to fertility gods etc., and moreover the worship in any manner of those gods, is what is being discussed here, not homosexuality. Notice what the incorporation of sexuality into Pagan rites does, it 'profanes the name of thy God,' hence God commands the Jews that He alone is their God. And so we read in context:
"...And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
What exactly is Moses forbidding here? In context he is forbidding the people from worshiping Molech and the other local gods in any way, including through the popular sex rites.
That this is what is being forbidden is even clearer in Leviticus 20! Note how this chapter begins:
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
3 And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.
4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:
5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.
6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.
8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.
Then certain abuses are innumerated and we come to verse 13, again specifically concerning the use of semen and sex magic.
Throughout their history the Israelites had a weakness for idolatry according to the Bible. This is simply another example of God seeking to control that weakness. These two verses say nothing about homosexuality.

floozy: I know War Games' parents, as we grew up in the same area (although we now live across the continent from each other). They really don't care that she's bisexual. They love her for who she is, not for what she can or can't provide for the family.
And she brings up a good point: Are your parents heartbroken about YOU, since you are female? You won't be carrying on the family name any time soon. and what about the homosexuals who adopt children? Don't those kids carry on the family name? Or are adopted children a big disappointment, too?

I'm no Scientist, but it seems to me that homosexuality in humans is very likely a natural evolutionary mutation. We are, more than any other animal ever has before us, over populating the earth. We take up more and more space everyday and use up far too many natural resources. Homosexuality is a good thing, especially when it comes to the future of humanity. We need to slow down, before we cause mass extinction of many species, including ourselves.
Nature is smarter than we are, it was here long before us and will continue long after we are no longer here. If we can't learn to adapt, as a species, to benefit the world around us - then we will surely parish. Homosexuality is a fix for this. The numbers will continue to go up, until the birth rate starts slowing down significantly and maybe beyond that. Who knows.
Anyone who sees it as "wrong" is purely and simply ignorant, and I'd venture to guess they are the same folks who think evolution is fake. Little do they know that "their kind" of mindset is weak, and life is about the survival of the fittest. Their kind of mentally is not productive for our species existence and will naturally be weeded out. I personally find it a bit comical that they think something is "wrong" with homosexuals, when in reality THEY are a large part of what is very wrong with humanity. Ironic isn't it?

Neither party are doing something devoid of the different's consent, and the two are answering one yet another's needs devoid of adverse consequence on everybody else. that's merely like a guy and a woman falling in love, that's precisely the comparable thought with distinctive genders. For something to develop into morally - not merely culturally - unacceptable, we'd frequently assume it to contain harm of yet somebody else, a breach of their human rights, or an intentfully malicious act in the direction of somebody else. Homosexuality would not fall decrease than those categories for the comparable reason heterosexuality would not. So, now i've got blown your straw guy out of the water, am i able to have a cookie?

You're not going to get a satisfactory answer, because all the passages in the Bible that supposedly justify hatred of gay people deal explicitly with sex-- and even then, that's only a religious reason.
I don't understand homophobia at all. I wish I did, so I could help homophobes deal with their problems, but what can I say? I was raised in Massachusetts. I've got no experience with homophobia except over the internet, and maybe when talking to a few orthodox types.

Ok a fair question.
I believe the Bible to be the Inspired word of God.
The bible is clear that any sex outside of marriage (between a man and women) is sin.
Again, that includes ALL sex outside the marriage of a man and a women is sin. (I can give many scriptual references on request)

I have nothing against homosexuals. If someone is against homosexuality, to them I say "don't be with someone of the same gender." It's really that easy. If someone is against gay marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex.

For one thing, if EVERYONE was a literal homosexual, then by defination the world would not be able to support itself because we would all die and there would be no way to propagate.
That being said, there is no natural way to show there is such a thing. There is no gene or scientific reason for one to be called homosexual. I truely believe that there is some kind of gender disconnect very early in ones life, before they can remember, that gives them the notion that they were born that way. My guess that if one looks into their parental relationships, they will find the dynamics that caused this disconnect.. I know it is a very difficult issue to talk about because by my definition people in gay lifestyles are messed up and I'm fully aware that no one wants to be called that, and though I am not "calling" them that I do believe folks in that lifestyle need some help. Let's be honest you can't possibly watch a gay pride parade and believe that the things that go on there are normal. I tried to make this as straight forward as possible without being hurtful, because I do have a heart for those who are hurting--and we know there is hurt in that community.
