When a guy tells you he's "playing for keeps", what does he mean?

What does it mean when a guy tells you he's "playing for keeps"? I guess I should add that we've been in a "friends with benefits" arrangement for two and a half years on and off at this point.

Oh...it could mean many of things. Either he is really into you and wants to get married. Or he is a stalker crazy guy and it could be trouble.

Being that you guys are already involved in the whole friends with benefits i would think that he means that he is not going to lose you as this benefit friends or possibly that he would want more from you. I would go with the first though, he wants this kind of relationship to be a long one

Technically, it means he's wanting to be with you long term (not just a "hit it and quit" type arrangement). In actuality, it probably means very little (because people have a limited concept of just how long forever is), but it was a very nice gesture.
